Hey guys, I decided that I want to play around with linux for a while, so i completely formatted my computer and split my 20gb HDD into 2 10gb partitions, im installing win2k on my computer as i type (i used FA not NTFS)
Now what confuses me is do i need to have a seperate boot partition? How do i go about this if I have already made my two 10gb partitions? Partition magic would be the best way??
How big should my root partition be? 5gb or so would be fine? i will put most of my stuff on the 10gb fat windows partition..
Should my swap partition be about 512mb? I have 392 (?) mb ram and i dont intend on doing anything too heavy, maybe games and music and some word processing..
Any other partitions that i need to set up before i start installing mandrake??
You don't need a /boot partition if you don't want one, all you need is one for root and one for swap, 5 gigs should be alright, and yeah 512mb swap sounds good.
also, i dont know if ive set up my partitions right, ive got 30mg as primary at the start of the drive for boot(which is F: ), then after that i have 13 or so gig for my windows FAT32 partition, then i have my linux under a logical D:, which is about 5gb, then swap (512mb) after the linux partition also under logical
does it matter if any partitions are under extended/primary or not?
