mandrake 7.2 rant

I have spent the last month trying to upgrade netscape 4.75 to no luck. I cant post here in netscape I am currently posting
with konqueror which wont go to google So when I try to find downloads I have to use netscape, but netscape wont
download (I also cant copy addresses from netscape and paste to konqueror) opera wont work because of file
dependancies to files not on comp there are tons of java scripts that just wont work
I could not get my pci sound card to work, then I ran drakeconf to work but now I dont have permission to my cdrom
whenever I have a music cd in not even in root. The only thing usb I can get to work is a mouse.
tar.gz files will not unzip. The only program downloaded and sucessfully installed is aim
I know in another OS that I can put program files in c:\program files but dont know where they go here
I have been used to ctrl+enter for parseing urls for so long that it is almost second nature, is there any way to get this back
I would like a keyboard shortcut for process manager but havnt figured out how to do it. 3 finger salute only brings me to
a logout prompt. I boot to my userid but when I logout to login to root I cant log back into my ID (it keeps wanting to bring
me back in sawfish (and hopelessly locks)
Oh yeah and my mouses scroll button works when it wants to?

Mandrake 7.2 is ancient. If you want to experience Linux you really ought to go for an up to date distro. This is probably why you're having a ton of dependency issues trying to upgrade stuff and why hardware support is flaky. my advice would be to get a more up to date version of mandrake and do some Googling -- the Rute tutorial is very good at getting to understand the basics of Linux from a command line perspective.

Well for starters, Mandrake 7.2 is so out of date it's not even funny. Get a current distrobution and work from there.
