Mandrake 7.1 graphics card problem

Hi.I just installed Mandrake 7.1 and everything went fine.
However when I boot to Mandrake I can't get to the graphics environment, I get a distorted picture, as If there's something wrong with my graphics card.During the intalation I chose resolution 1024x768.I tried a lower resolution 800x600 but no luck.
Can anyone help me??

xenia; it would help if u included mfg &
model# of graphic card with specs. or
look up in if your graphic card is compatible with linux. advice:
always check compatibilty of any device
first b4 purchasing & installing to avoid
