Mandrake 10: logout from x and getting nothing

Hi there,

I have a seriose problem with linux, everytime I logout from my X Session, no matter if KDE, GNOME or whatever Session, I get a black screen and nothing more. I cant even switch to another virtual console then. And when I try to connect this machine from another one, it wont work. I got this first with Fedora Core 2 and thought, maybe something wrong with the Distro, but in Mandrake 10 its the same. But before that tow versions I had Red Hat and all worked fine.

Any suggestions?

In Mandrake 10 there is some other stuff, I dont understand:

When I login as normal user and want to do root stuff it wont work wiht sudo, because the password for root dont work. But when I su as root, its ok. And in the virtual consoles I also cant login as root, I first must login as normal user and then switch to root.

Thanks for your help,

I am getting the same problem. I noticed that it is only after I installed the nvidia drivers that logging out of X crashes. If anyone has information about this, it would be very much appreciated.

Actually, I did some testing, and I found that x only crashes upon exiting when I have TwinView enabled for tv-out in my XF86Config-4 file. When I don't add all the lines for tv-out, x exits fine.

It's just a temporary fix for now (I'd sure like to have my tv-out working withough problems), but at least it narrows it down to the nvidia XF86 settings.
