Angry mandrake 10 ISSUES

Ok so I installed mandrake 10 on my friends computer. I also installed it on my computer last night and there was no problems. Well mandrake 10 is supposed to have xmms and mplayer and for some ungodly reason hers does not have either, on my computer I have both. I have no idea what exaxtly went wrong here.
Also I'm trying to install gaim and everytime I do (on her computer) it asks me for an installation disk. Any help or insite would be MUCH appreciated seeming as how i want something to die!!

How do you expect it to install Gaim without being able to read the package from the disk?? also use the Mandrake Control Center to install xmms and mplayer if they arent installed for you.

I've never had to use a disk to install gaim before. I just installed it. Do you mean that i have to use the mandrake installation disk? I'm very unfamiliar with mandrake I've used redhat and SuSE.

If you've gone via the Install software program and it's saying it thinks the package is found on a cd, then just place the cd in the requested drive and it'll do the rest. Do you mean you've previously downloaded gaim from online package sources? You can add many more online sources for Mandrake too, but as those apps on the cd, why not use the cds now you've got them.

The set of software installed depends on what you choose. I guess the choice was different when you installed on your own machine and then when you installled for your friend.

All positions in menu are taken from my MDK 9.2, so that may be a bit differnet in version 10 plus translated back to English. But you should get the idea how are the programs called.

It is easily fixable if you have installation cds (or Internet connection, but with cds it's easier). You can do this using 'Software installation' program (in System->Configuration->Packages or from console. The console command is (when you have a console program like konsole or xterm open):
su
(will ask for root password, type it in)
urpmi xmms
Then you can use also similar commands like 'urpmi mplayer' or 'urpmi gaim'. You'll be asked for cds.

To download the programs (if you don't have the cds) you need to add new software source (System -> Configuration-> Packages -> Source manager), but you need to know a mirror or two (the best way is to dig from Mandrake website and find one from the mirror list).

Thank-you Proud, Mara, and pongmaster. I have the programs on my computer now and just need to figure out how to use them correctly.
