mandrake 10 install stall..... proceeding, please wait
Hi all, this is my first go at linux after my win2k faild to boot for the gazilenth time and rather than reinstall it I thought now is the time to try the better option.
So armed with a fresh cover disk install of mandrak 10 (3 cd) I start the install process but it bearly gets out of the starting gate.
1. detect usb - ok
2 "loading program into memory" - gives red bar - ok
3 proceeding with install - STALLED
any ideas or suggestions before I have to turn back to the dark side?
Thanks
HRT

When the install stops, try to switch to console using ctrl+alt+f1 (in fact, one of ctrl+alt+f to ctrl+alt+f4) - installer messages (move verbose than those in graphical mode) will be shown. If there's an error it should be listed. Plase note down last 2-3 messages and post them.

A problem when mounting USB devices. Try to unplug all you have on USB.

Hello Hrt08 and Mara,
I have the exact same problem as hrt08, trying to install Mandrake 10.1 Offiicial on my eMachine 9210 (AMD Athlon 64) : setup gets stalled after mount(none, /proc/bus/usb, usbdevfs, -105820972).
1. I have checked that nothing was plugged to the USB ports
2. The 3 Mandrake 10.1 Cds are OK since I was able to install the distribution on my old Pentium II machine
3. The problem seems typical to version 10.1 since my eMachine is currently running Mandrake 10.0 Official (actually I just wanted to gently upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1). I also tried to boot on the first Mandrake 10.0 CD and it is still OK.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

I booted in expert mode with : linux acpi=off noapic nolapic and was able to install Mandrake 10.1 on the eMachine.
I only needed to configure my printer after installation and first boot on Mandrake 10.1.

Yeah, things worked better with a regular mouse, if anyone's interested.
