Mandrake 10 freezes on shutdown

I just set up Mandrake 10 last night, and am dual booting that w/ XP. The first couple times i shutdown, it was fine. Now all of a sudden, it freezes right before the progress bar reaches the end. Then only thing i have done was to install an i686 2.6.3.7 kernel when i was following a HOWTO. Any insight?

Hit <esc> while shutting down (at the progress bar), and see where it's stopping. Chances are that it's shutting down properly, but your poweroff isn't set up correctly (either in the new kernel, or lilo/grub was changed). If it says "power down" (or something similar) when it freezes, that's the problem. Either APIC or APM needs to be set up. Which you can use depends on your system, but APM is the older (more thoroughly tested) of the two.
