Mandrake 10.1 and toshiba portege 3480CT screen prob

I have it installed on my toshiba portege 3480CT.
i installed 2 of the 3 disks and worked out how to manually install the rest of the programs off disk 3 by right clicking on em and then click on Software installer.

I just cannot get full screen of mandrake 10.1 on my laptop.
it has a black box around it.ie not full screen like i want it to be.
any suggestions? is their any cheat codes i can try in the konsole or something to make it full screen.
i've tryed clickin on the icon in the taskbar to change res but it doesn't make it bigger as in full screen.
it has a savage 8mb video card the toshiba 3480CT does.

only prob is its lookin bare due to lack of appz/progs.
does anyone know any good sites for linux programs.
i like this site http://linux.tucows.com/
also do i need a antivirus?
i know i dont need a firewall because, mandrake 10.1 has the shorewall firewall built in.

btw i went to run>drakconf > Monitor>1600x1200
Screenres>1024x768, 32 thousand colors (15 bits)
thankyou for all the help.mandrake 10.1 is awesome i love it.
i am slowly learning Root too.
i might get some books too.
i think i might buy the 5 cd set of the mandrake 10.1
just dont wanna buy em off ebay.coz ive had faulty disks off them in the past.
