managing pseudo terminals in an ssh session

Hello, I was wondering if there were any commands to manage pseudo terminals i.e. opening new a pts, or switching between them. The systems I am ssh'in to are slackware and SunOS. Let me know if more info i needed. Thanks in advance.

Theres always screen.
http://www.math.fu-berlin.de/~guckes/screen/index.php3
"SCREEN allows you to switch between programs and yet use just one "terminal". So you can write texts, look at emails and newsgroups, read webpages, download files, all at the same time - but with a window for each program. SCREEN shows one window at a time - all other windows are hidden. "
