man page question

someone told me that sysd has a man page but when i type --- man systemd i get no manual for systemd. any one know why. does man us online man pages by default or can you access man pages stored online if i don't have it locally. sorry i don't really know how man works other than the command man "whatever".

At first, it is systemd, not sysd.

the man command shows only man pages for programs you have installed, it does not use the net. You can view the manpages of systemd by following the link I gave to you in the Slackware and systemd thread: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/

Use "man -k" (or "apropos") to do string searches for manpages. The name of the page you want needs to be entered exactly, so if you don't know what to use you'll have to search for it. There are also programs that don't have man pages.

As for the rest, read "man man".

And finally, don't forget that there are also info pages that often go into more detail than the man pages.
