Making second HD available through samba

I'm using mandrake 9.1. I'm able to share folders in my home directory, and have them visible on my windows machine. However, when I try to share something outside of my /home directory, it won't let me. So, I thought I was being clever and mounted my second HD into my /home directory, still can't share it. any help would be great.

What are the permissions on the root folder of the second HD? Who owns the directory?

root has ownership, but even if I try to share as root, I am told "only directories in your Home can be shared"
