Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

making linux pretty and how to install files in linux
I often see pictures of these really cool Linux desktops with transparent menus, awsome themes and things like that. I was wondering how I can do things like that. I have KDE and was messing around and found how to make the menu bar transparent, but I dont want that. I would like to try out the tranparent drop menu and command line. Basically just anything to customize linux would be helpful. Here is a pic of something I think looks pretty cool: http://images.mandrakesoft.com/img/s...mdk91-scr2.jpg
So like I said, I don't necissarily only want transparent stuff, I might not even like tranparent stuff when I try it. So, if you know of ways to just customize, let me know. Thanks a lot!

Hmmm, the icons I was looking at in the pic I posted are the ones with that crazy tux in all of them in the bottome right hand corner. The ones you showed seem to be more like the ones on the menu bar on the top.
sorry for double post, but I was trying to get the thing that Tinkster said (http://netdragon.sourceforge.net/) and I am having a little trouble. I am an00b and honestly have never installed anything in linux, so am not sure what to do. I thought you needed rpm's to install things, but to get the latest version of this software, you need to get a file with .tar.gx on the end. I downloaded it (I have Mandrake 10) and cannot figure out how to install it. Do I just need to get the latest mdk.i586.rpm file available? BTW, this is where I am looking at the downloads: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=21351
