Making Linux boot from USB Stick
 
Can anyone help me please.....

im trying to boot my usb stick... ive been through the forum and tried all the examples that ppl have posted but still cant get it to work...and my bios does boot from usb.

if someone can please tell me how to first format the stick and then make it bootable. ive got a 1gb usb stick and trying to boot linux from it.

im running knoppix live cd to do it....

if someone has managed to put linux on the usb stick can u please advise me on how to go about it, for some reason everything ive tried doesnt work.

Some USB sticks can't be booted from. I don't know the details, but my Sony stick for example definitely isn't bootable. You might want to try a different USB stick.

There are USB distros like:

The problem with some distros is USB support is not compiled into the kernel so the it can not mount filesystems on the USB drive.
