Making charts in OpenOffice Calc
Hello all,
This is a fairly particular question, and one that I think the answer to will be fairly obvious to a more experienced user than myself, so please excuse my ignorance. I have been inputing a bunch of data into excel spreadsheets, but I generate that data with some script that runs under Linux. I decided it would be easier to use OpenOffice Calc, but have run into this problem. How do I create charts of data that is not in columns that are right next to each other? Excel lets me pick series after starting the chart wizard, does Calc have a similar option? I want to be able to mess with the ranges of data plotted, and which columns make up the x and y axes values. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as this is really the last step I have to take in escaping the clutches of Microsoft. Thanks, Justin |
That was a quite interesting undertaking :}
I managed, thanks to the brilliant help function ;) What you do is, in the object bar on the left hand side, long-click "insert object", then select "chart". Then you mark the area in the spreadsheet where the chart is going to live. Then, a dialog comes up for you to define the range(s). You can either use the mouse, or the keyboard to do so. I've made a quite trivial example, two non-adjacent columns, which I selected by $Sheet1.$A$1:$A$17;$Sheet1.$C$1:$C$17 ... Eh voila, the rest is done by the wizard ;) Cheers, Tink |
Tink,
You're a champ! I think I'm finally getting the hang of this. After bashing away at it myself, I found a similar solution to the one you presented. Now, the next question is (not that this is really pressing). . . what if you want to make another column, other than the left-most one, the x-axis values? If you can solve that, the whole picture will be complete. thanks, Justin |
