makes partitions & unallocated space must created manually

For FEDORA REDHAT 16 or the core 4 ---- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or the 11.10?

FEDORA REDHAT OR Ubuntu live cds (for install) makes and unallocated space from used partitions (or only makes partitions from unallocated space) and unallocated space must created manually?

May install additional windows managers and switch between without reboot?
UBUNTU or FEDORA client has both window managers Gnome & KDE and can interchange between[NEEDED REBOOT?]?

UBUNTU 10.04 or FEDORA, client may act and as a Server(how?) or NOT, for this is absolutely the UBUNTU 10.04 server? WHAT ABOUT Fedora?

Both distributions are able to shrink partitions and make new partitions in the unallocated space automatically, IIRC.

Yes, you can install different desktop environments on them and no, you don't need to reboot to switch between them.

I am not sure if I understand that sentence correctly. Both distributions can act as desktop system and as server (although I personally wouldn't recommend one of the distros for server use, but that is just my opinion).

"Both distributions are able to shrink partitions and make new partitions in the unallocated space automatically, IIRC." needed boot first linux or not needed boot just from start-up install?

for server I must get "UBUNTU 10.04 server"?

Sorry, I don't understand that.

Yes, if you want to set up a server that would be the edition to use.

lse123 12-04-2011 02:10 PM

I mean like ubuntu you can install from live cd , prior live cd ubuntu boots or later there after booted...

TobiSGD 12-04-2011 02:12 PM

You can either do that with gparted, which should be installed on the Live-CD when you run that, or you can use the installer for it, both can do that.

lse123 12-04-2011 03:03 PM

You mean I can use installer prior linux boot[liveCD] or gpart[and the two in this stage?], OR after linux live CD boot use that, to resize partitions? correct / no false

TobiSGD 12-04-2011 05:55 PM

The installer (which is based on its own small Linux) has an integrated partitioner that is able to do such things.
If you boot up the Live-CD (not the installer part) there also should be a partitioner (most likely gparted) installed.

It is up to you which one you want to use.

lse123 12-05-2011 12:10 PM

installer prior or after boot up the Live-CD is exactly the same?

TobiSGD 12-05-2011 01:49 PM

I don't know if it is exactly the same installer, but I assume that it is and has the same functionality. Wouldn't make much sense to include two different installers, I would think.

to install gnome if have kde or vice versa I must do this from Package manager [ubuntu 10.04 LTS Client]? or...how?
How see what windows managers have?
how switch between windows managers?

TobiSGD 12-05-2011 02:32 PM

Just install the different environments with your package manager. If you want to switch, just log out and choose a different one in your login manager.

lse123 12-07-2011 09:16 AM

suppose have gnome & kde

when in kde, software programs are different than gnome and vice versa?
exist commons?

in ubuntu client 10.04(gnome) how mach large in the download(&install) of kde (kubuntu) ... over 70MB?

how access task manager in ubuntu 10.04 client?

TobiSGD 12-07-2011 11:06 AM

The programs from both environments are available in both environments and will work in both environments, for example you can use kate in Gnome or Nautilus in KDE.

Sorry, I don't use Ubuntu anymore, so I don't know.
