make trrowing an error

I've cloned this to my VM and am trying to get it working:
https://github.com/davies/tpcds-kit

I'm running Ubuntu and am working through tpcds-kit/tools/How_To_Guide.doc.

When I run "make" I get the below error:

Quote:
Makefile:255: recipe for target '.ctags_updated' failed
make: [.ctags_updated] Error 127 (ignored)
date > .ctags_updated
which is this line:

Code:
-ctags $(SRC) 2> /dev/null
Attached is the whole file. Can anybody tell me what's wrong with it?

I would say that error is ignored. I think this is the expected behaviour, nothing went wrong.

I expected a file called dbgen2 to be generated but it wasn't. that's why I think something didn't go right.

I may be wrong about this. It's all very new to me.

Looking at the makefile that you posted it should generate 5 executables: dsdgen, dsqgen, distcomp, mkheader & checksum
Code:
PROG1 = dsdgen$(EXE)
PROG2 = dsqgen$(EXE)
PROG3 = distcomp$(EXE)
PROG4 = mkheader$(EXE)
PROG5 = checksum$(EXE)

As pan64 said you can safely ignore that error but if you want to get rid of it install the package exuberant-ctags: https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/exuberant-ctags
