make partition on free space

hi,
I have one hard drive of 40 GB. On my system i have windows as well as linux, but after changing partition I have some 1 GB free space,
how can i make ext partition on it or add to my linux partition.

In two word : use gparted... In more words: it depends if you want to increase your system partition size, if that's the case, download and burn the gparted live-cd, and boot with it. In fact you can't change a mounted partition, so if the partition you want to increase is the system one, you can't unmount it.

gparted, but you don't need to boot on a live cd
