"make" does not work in my mandrake install

I am trying to install network drivers. I ran tar and have the files in \scr. When I type "make", the command line says 'command does not exist'

You have to have gcc/make installed and also most will need you to run ./configure first at times, which creates the makefile, etc. What exactly are you trying to install and what is \scr ? Unix and Linux uses / for directories, not \ which is windows/dos.

Also, what kind of card do you have, Mandrake comes preloaded with just about all that are supported in Linux. Might not be a need to install net drivers perhaps!

welcome to lq, first you could check that you have the development packages installed. in the mandrake control center open your software manager, and check installed packages.
good luck.
