make a mail server for newbie with centos 6.2 64bit

Hi,

I'm newbie on linux and i want to learn create a mail server with it, i'm using centos 6.2 64bit, any sugestion what MTA that can i use that don't to hard to configure for a newbie like me. I read about how to install mail server that we have to set DNS server, BIND and all stuff before install a MTA, that make me confused about how to set it and i never succeed to set it.
Can i have explanation step by step that i must to do to make my own mail server?
Is it possible if i make my mail server and an IM XMPP server in 1 server without using virtual?

you don't need DNS. All that really means is that your server would be set as the MX record for the domain you're hosting mail for. That can be anywhere in any existing DNS solution really.

postfix is pretty nice to install in terms of a conventional MTA, but you might prefer looking at a suite like Zimbra to provide most of the things you'd generally bundle as a "mail server" as people tend to say they want a "mail server" without actually being clear on what they consider that to be, which is often SMTP + AV/Spam + POP3/IMAP + webmail which are traditionally totally seperate things which happen to coincide with each other.

so the step i need to do is:
1. have my own domain and my hosting that provide me dns and mx name
2. set my MX name to the mail server
3. install zimbra as MTA

no need to set my server as DNS server and not using BIND, is that right? please correct me if i wrong, i'm so sorry if i ask to much coz i really new and still learning...

Correct, although Zimbra is a suite, not JUST an MTA. In fact Zimbra uses Postfix internally as the MTA.
