Unhappy major problem, boot password doesnt work aspire one linux. cant get into system

ok basically.. i have an acer aspire one a150 with linux. only had it for two days and have managed to lock myself out!!

I set up the 'root' password the very first time i switched on.And was only ever asked for it if I chose to lock the system whilst logged on.

I then entered the BIOS and set a supervisor password. and the option for password on boot. I was trying to secure my laptop so basically no one else could go on it.

The manual tells me when the system boots I will be asked for the user password. When i do boot , i get the message please enter CURRENT password. I have tried eveything, entered the two ONLY passwords I have set and nothing. I cant even change the boot source so i can format the thing and just re-install linux from disc.

This is a major problem , i dont want to have to send it away or anything after just two days. Can anyone help, any ideas, such as a default password or anything?

Thanks in advance.

If it's the linux root password that you need you should be able to boot linux into single user mode and reset the root password.

Sounds like you have forgotten you BIOS password. That is not very good :P
You will probably have to contact Aspire and ask them how to reset the BIOS password. It could be jumpers on the main board or you might need to send it back to them....

Let us know if you need to reset the root password.
Hopefully it should be too hard, might just have to type init=/bin/sh at grub boot (if you get grub boot options that is.....)

hi thanks, but managed to solve the problem yesterday. I saw in another post something about no matter how you type in passwords when setting them, the bios stores passwords in capital letters, so I put in the supervisor password I set in caps and it worked! thank goodness!
