main menu icons
I'm using Mandrake 9.2 and recently I noticed that some of the files in my main menu (applications, configuration, documentation, etc) are not showing their normal icons. I've also noticed that there isn't as many files and folders under them as they're used to be. For instance under "Multimedia", there used to be "Graphics", Sound", and "Video", and now there is just "Graphics". I know i didn't delete all this stuff, Any idea on how this happened?

I guess the first question is:

what have you been doing in/with your system lately?

Things rarely just 'go away' by themselves. :)

Hrmm, well i've been trying to install several applications (grip, k3b, mplayer, edonkey) mostly from the "rpmdrake". I've also been trying to get my wirless card working with dirvers from (with no success i might add) :). I've been having to log in as root to so some things. I'm very new to linux, I guess theres no telling what happened. I think I'm going to switch to red hat though. There seems to be much more rpm packages for it. This ./configure, make, make install thing is kinda hit and miss. :)

The "disappearing menus" with mandy 9.2 is kind of a common problem. I dont know if the updates from mandrake address it or not but the immediate solution is to run "update-menus -v" without the quotes, from a command line or in the "run command" dialog box
