Mailserver migration

Hi all,
I'm trying to migrate an existing mailserver running with Debian 3.0 to another machine running Debian 4.0. The first is running sendmail, uw-imapd, ipop3d and the second is running sendmail and dovecot-imapd/popd.
I've copied (rsync -avv) all the mails of the users in the /var/mail directory from one server to the other, but when the users are logged with pop account they retrieve all the mails from the beggining as the mailbox were a new one.
My question is how can I make the pop users not to download all the mails from their mailbox but only the new ones.
p.s all the mails in the mbox-es are marked as RO.

Thanks in advance.

If you use imapsync to migrate the mail the flags will be retained on the new system so mails that have already been read will be marked as read and will not be popped again as new mail.

Thanks for your reply,
I've seen this tool but I think that it is not for this case because like it explains it usage is:

/usr/bin/imapsync \
--host1 imap.truc.org --user1 foo --passfile1 /etc/secret1 \
--host2 imap.trac.org --user2 bar --passfile2 /etc/secret2

so I have to know all the passwords of all the users to make possible the migration. I have a lot off users and maybe there is another way to just copy the mailboxes and keep the flags unaltered.

Regards
