mail server setup problem

hello!

I want to setup a mail server on a Debian 5 system. I intend to use Postfix. I have allready installed a Postfix as mail service and it work very well. The trouble with the new installation is that the Linux machine on which the mail server will be running has no dns service. More than that the machine is on a local network and it has a C class address (192.168.x.x). As I know i will need to forward the ports for the mail service from the gateway. I don't know if the external machine (the gateway, that has a fixed public IP address runs a DNS service). So I must setup a domain on some DNS machine that will point to that server. The question is how I configure Postfix and port-forward is the only configuration that I must do?
I would like some indications from the experts.

Many thanks to feed-back people !

It doesn't need its own DNS service, just male sure your /etc/resolv.conf is correctly set up with nameserver entries.

If you are talking about external DNS, use www.zoneedit.com or similar to set up the MX entries. It's pretty straightforward.

Other than that, look at the basic configuration examples shown at www.postfix.org.
