I've finaly set up a mandrake 10.1, as I wanted it (greek locales, some M$ apps with wine, counterstrike source :P).

I use Thunderbird as a mail client (reader) but I also want to use 'mail' so I can send emails from the console (and maybe add some script to them, like a randome quote from fortune or my danasoft signature - showing OS, IP, and browser make of the reader). I don't have the slightest clue.

How do I configure mail so it sends mail through gmail's smtp (from my account)?
How do I add a custom footer to messages?

you mean yuou want your "from"
to be from a gmail account?

simplest way to configure email is use:
www.webmin.com
