Machine is hanging


Hi,

I found below logs while my machine was hanging and i had to reboot it. if i find hda in dmesg it is DVD. but if i run fdisk -l . It doesn't display there ? Why is machine hanging ? How can i fix it ?

It looks like a hardware failure with the disk (the ide timeouts)...

One thing you might try unplugging the cable connectors and plugging them back in. Sometimes corrosion on the contacts can do this, and just reconnecting is enough to clean the contacts.

I don't find any disk/DVD-Rom/Cd-Rom connected. It is HP-Proliant machine. Do i need to check with hardware vendor ?

$ sudo /sbin/lspci | grep -i hda
$ sudo /sbin/fdisk -l | grep -i hda

All HP-Proliants have a disk. Usually listed as SATA. They might not have have a CD though (the ide-cd timeouts could be caused by just probing for one, but that would be only during boot). But your hardware list shows a CD/DVD installed.

If you have a contract/warranty, it wouldn't hurt to check.
