Mac OS "Colors" feature on Linux?
I've had a look around the Internet for a while now and have yet to find an answer to this question. I hear this is the best place to get answers about Linux stuff so here goes...
I remember in the old days of the Mac OS (definitely in v.6 & 7) that there was a feature for assigning colours to files and, I think, folders. Files could then be listed in a view grouped by their colour, enabling arbitrary tagging of files that were similar or of a common state (like to be archived, etc).
Is there any software or file system available on the Linux platform that would enable such a feature? A colours system would be fine - a system to add and sort by custom meta-data would be ideal.
Thanks for your consideration of this question and looking past the Mac references in the Subject ;-)
