LVM problem, Setting up local volume management lockup/freez

Happy New Year,

On a RHEL 4, Linux version 2.6.9-78.0.8.EL , I realized that my CD-ROM had the wrong hardware setting. I had the CD drive set on SELECT jumper position. This caused problems because it should have been on the master position. So I repositioned the jumper on master and then adjusted BIOS accordingly. Now I have two master drives, each on it own IDE. No conflicts or anything wrong at the BIOS level, but when I start the boot process, specifically after grub, I get the message : "Setting up local volume management: te mode: OK". The computer does not get out of that state, however it is not frozen, I can still move the mouse. But unless I shutdown nothing will happen. Any ideas how I can introduce new volume configuration into LVM ??

thanks,

nadir,
