LVM Issue


Hi Everybody

In LVM Scenario, Is it possible to extend the size of root partition online and without any impact

Is it possible to extend ? or is there any precautions have to take care..

I have experienced once doing this with boot that needed to be re sized due to the new kernel update being to large to install on the current boot directory.

You would remotely ssh into the machine and unmount boot and then basically move everything on boot, to a separate disk, ie sdb1. Then you would need to move boot with lvmove to the new disk. You would then need to extend boot or root with lvextend to the size required and then move everything back again from the newly created disk and remove the new disk afterwards.

That would be lv, not partition. Yes, no danger at all.
Re-sizing any modern filesystem (especially increasing) is generally safe, but there is no excuse if something goes wrong. Make a backup before you start.
No exception.
