LVM and Volume managers

Hello all;

LVM is a tool which is used to create logical volumes from actual physical disks.

1) What additional advantage we gain from VxVm/Tivoli volume manager instead of LVM ?

2) In Real-env, which one gets popular (LVM or VxVM)?

Thanks in advance.

No problem.

LVM is free, Vxvm is not free. But both are almost similar functionality except some terminologies; so that i asked.

This answer is entirely anecdotal:
I've never worked with a storage infrastructure that wasn't compatible with LVM (you could access the undifferentiated resource via the LVM tools regardless of the middleware).
I've never worked with the Verisign product at all.
