LVM's backup

Today I've learned about LVM. This feature looks good, but I wonder, can I combine it with RAID 5/6?
I mean, I can backup the data by snapshots or mirroring, but I see it like losing a lot of space.

LVM has RAID 5 and 6 built-in. You can also create LVM physical volumes on top of software or hardware RAID devices.

RAID is not the same as a backup, though. It's a high-availability solution: When a disk breaks, the RAID continues running. It doesn't help you when you delete a file by accident.
Snapshots are the opposite: They help when you lose a file, but they don't protect you in the case of disk failures.
