So i decided to get Lubuntu Linux. And thing is.is it fully comfortable and usable like Ubuntu? Can i use .deb files to instal things? (.exe like windows) i have stupid internet Vodafone mobile conect, but the instaler is in windows.. That is the problem. Can i yust use the allready instaled Vodafone program from hard disk? I want to make it dual boot. And can i download to windows hard drive wine and for wine needed packages and then instal them manualy from hard disk in Lubuntu? And is there in Lubuntu something like word and that like? I need office software to make .doc files, but all pc's in school have windows 8 and 10, but i have medium slow windows 7 and soon will have Lubuntu. But i mainly want use Lubuntu, because windows is a bit slow in deleting and copiying things and playing games is horror.. I play Doom 3, quake4, all half life and half life 2 series, minecraft a little bit and nfs series. Please help me.

Lubuntu is made by taking an appropriate selection of packages from Ubuntu and putting them into an installation package. You could make it yourself, installing Ubuntu and then changing the user interface and some of the basic software -- but it would take you all the afternoon! So, Lubuntu is as good as Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is normally only supported for 9 months, so you have to keep updating. If you get Lubuntu 15.04, you'll have to update to 15.10 before the end of the year. If you mind that, then get version 14.04. That's the long-term-support version, and it will get security fixes until 2019.

Lubuntu's word-processor is Abiword. It will load Word documents and save in .doc format if you need to.
http://www.abisource.com/wiki/Microsoft_Word_documents
Alternatively you could install the LibreOffice package, which might be a bit better at reading .doc files.

Wine will run all the games you play.
https://www.winehq.org/
It won't make them any faster, although at least it won't make them any slower. If they're slow, you'll just have to save for a hardware upgrade.

Vodaphone will work with Linux.
https://www.business.vodafone.com/si...q/p_faq281.jsp
http://www.randombugs.com/linux/inst...ect-linux.html
and there are many similar sites.

As you'll be using a direct modem link to the internet, rather than a modem, you need to switch the firewall on. Ubuntu has it off by default -- don't ask why. Install the package gufw and that lets you turn it on:

Tnx for help.i play doom 3 on medium and half life 2 on max settings and games is still +30fps.and yeah i don't want to f*@k with the updates so i will yust download LTS version and wine afcourse.
I don't want to make my own ubuntu version because i am only 15 and i will soon finish elementary school in Latvia and buy more powerfull pc with +4gb of ram, not my old pc with 1.5gb ram and bigger video memory. My old radeon x300/x550/x1050 series is old like hell.. Even my classmate ask my who pc to buy. And do i need download that software for Vodafone or i will use that what is in my Vodafone flash internet thing? Becouse old software for Vodafone is a bit buggy, but not mutch. And if i use wine and install Vodafone software? It is like the same or it work slower or don't work at all?

+1

I've never understood that either.

I use gufw on my laptop, as well. Earlier this year, I had a discussion about it in which some members disagreed with how it writes rules. You can find that discussion here...

Hi...

Just as a guess, you probably would do better installing the company's Linux software than trying to use it with Wine.

I know because they can think i am hacking their software from linux and something else and just block, warn or just send "friendly" mail to Vodafone SMS and that "friendly" was sarcastic and i mean they would in final arrest me i don't want that and i want peace with police and Vodafone team.

Normally, someone needs proof of this...

What on earth are you talking about? Do you really think you'll get angry letters from the company and get arrested if you use their Linux drivers???

I yust send email to them and asked a few questions and i am waiting their answer.. in Latvia only about 100-500or 1000 people use Linux and even then they instal windows
For Bite Latvia team that question will be heavy, becouse Bite provide Vodafone in Latvia region.

I doubt if you'll get much of a reply from Vodaphone. Companies are not very helpful (unless they can make money from doing it): you might get nothing or just "we cannot help you with Linux". That's why so many sites like this exist: Linux users just help each other.

I wish I'd been as good at foreign languages as you are when I was 15. Or as good now, for that matter!

Wow, that's tragic. I think there are different factors leading to this but it ultimately comes from one spiritual source. However, I know someone who could take care of this problem if folks there would receive and follow Him.

It's good that you want to do something different.

Is more tragical things and i yust want to live different way from others and i just feel i need live better and different life from others. In school some of they are laughing at me because i know lot about operating system's and computer hardware and software, but i know i can get money more easily and quickly than auto mechanic and 3 of 5 boys in my class will be car mechanics.. So be different sometimes is advantage.. I am still waiting for back email from Bite team and i think it will be next day becouse in LV now is over midnight
