Does it connect to the internet when you select a NAT connection in VirtualBox?

If not, you have some larger problem that I've not encountered. If so, you may have the wrong bridged adapter type selected. In the Network dialog, with "bridged adapter" selected, click the little triangle labeled "Advanced." A dialog will open which includes an item labeled "Adapter Type." In the Adapter Type dialog, several different "types" will be available. Test each one in turn.

Generally, VB defaults to the correct choice, but sometimes it doesn't.

Let us know what you find out.
