LQ Ubuntu ISO too large for cd

Down loaded the Ubuntu 10.4 ISO for this site when download was complete, got a screen telling me to insert a writable cd which I did. It went through a Format process and then asked me to drag the files to that directory. When I tried to do that I got a message saying that I was 138mb short of space. the Iso was 704mb and the cd had formatted to something over 500mb. the disk is a CD-RW rewritable cd.
any thoughts appreciated

You say you got the instruction to insert a CD just after you finished downloading the ISO file?

You don't specify what program you're using to burn the image file. Are you using Nero? ImgBurn? Something else? Are you burning the ISO as an image, not as a file? You need to select the option to burn the ISO as an image. There should be a way to do this in whatever software you're using.

Try a different CD, maybe a non-RW one.

A clean CD should have enough capacity.

I have the image from Ubuntu site and the size comes out to be 699.4MB or 733419520 bytes. And it fit into clean non RW cd with no issues what-so-ever.

Glad to see you got it to burn correctly.

If your problem is solved, please go ahead and mark it as such by going to the "Thread Tools" menu at the top of the thread, then choose the "Mark Thread as Solved" option.
