Low sound output Mandrake 10

Hi,

I have just installed Mandrake 10. Everything is fine except for the very low sound output when using Totem and Realplayer (I downloaded the Realplayer 8 RPM). There is nothing wrong with the speakers or sound card - the system plays CD's at full volume, and Totem plays DVDs fine as well, but when I try streaming audio from, say, the BBC, the sound is there, but incredibly low. At first the streams were opening in Totem, but I changed the helper application in Mozilla to Realplayer, and they now open in Realplayer, but at the same very low sound.

I can't find a volume control in KDE, but I've been using Gnome as well, with its volume control set at max.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried running alsamixer? (you might need to run it as root) If you find the level that needed fixing you should be able to save the changes by running alsactl store.
