Low memory configuration??
 

Hey all, I have been trying to install mandrake 9.1 on a old pc I was given. This is for my own personal use and I do not want to run windows on it. For the obvious reason that I want to learn something new. Anyhow, to the point, I have tried once and the install was not successful, it never went through the entire process and kept hanging up on me. So what I decided to do was try and reformat my drive and start over. Here are my pc specs

Pentium MMX 233mhz
64 MB of ram
20GB Maxtor HDD
Network Solutions NIC

The error I keep getting during the reinstall when I choose rescue says that I am trying to install using a low memory configuration . Just what exactly does this mean? Do I need more RAM? from what I understood I thought 64 mb was enough to run mandrake. I would really like to run mandrake since I have been told it's the best linux distro for newbies. so far I am not convinced. I would appreciate anyone's help, and step by step advisal. Go to the bottom of this page. I think that your processor may be the problem or it's unhappy with your memory.

OK it says, that I need at least 64mb of ram, If I am not mistaken a Pentium MMX is essentially a pentium II? please correct me if I am wrong, anyone else have any suggestions? I appreciate it, thanks.;

In the boot menu (from the cd), there are extra boot options. There should be an option to change the memory - an I am working from memory here. Also, if you get the option, install using a text install, I have had less problems doing that.

hmmm k, let me try it out, I may be able to get my hands on 128 mb of ram, but we'll see, I'll check back on this site if anyone else has any suggestions.
