Lots of procs running
I set up my debian sarge box about a week ago and have noticed it's been kinda sluggish. I've been trying to get it to speed up and I've noticed that I have 62 procs always running. Can anyone provide a link on how to disable procs on start up and what each proc does?

That's not a terribly large number for a desktop system. There are several system processes and kernel threads that need to run all the time. What specs does your system have? What runs sluggist? Can you postthen output of the "top" command?

Basicly everything starts sluggish. Firefox takes a good 4-6seconds to start. Aterm takes about 2-3 seconds. You get the idea, all apps take atleast 3seconds to start.
