Lost password please help
Hi,
I have found and old Linux Mint box I was trying to learn Linux on a couple of years ago and now want to update it from 18 to 19.2 I can get into the Desktop but when I want to Update or do anything it asks for an Authentication pwd and I have tried every password I thought I would have used but none work. I rebooted with shift to get to Grub then Esc then e but couldn't see where and what to change. Any help please. I have a DVD of 19.2 which I guess I could just boot to and go over the previous but it seems a little unsophisticated way to do it. Any help appreciated. |
I would google "Linux Mint restore password".
In fact, I did that, and found this: Quote:

You're probably better off doing a fresh install, lots of changes in Buster, some Debian based distros didn't update cleanly, if I remember correctly.

ozstar,
Do as berndbausch suggests and then, if you have a separate home partition, you can preserve it when doing a fresh installation of Linux Mint 19.2: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-distro-37074/ Otherwise, backup any personal data from the LM 18 installation to an external drive before doing the new one. |
Thank you
