I have installed Linux Mandriva and for some reason the only thing that has gone wrong is I have losted the three buttons at the top right of each window allowing for minimizing, maximizing, and closing of the windows. Please help me with getting these back. Thanks.

Well that's very very weird. The only thing I can think of is to reinstall the window manager/desktop and hope it gets it right this time.

You could also try going into Kmenu>settings>control panel>window decorations and check the setttings there

I'll assume that since you are on Mandriva that you are using KDE. It might be possible that your display is partly off-screen. Try right-clicking in the title bar and experimenting with the restore/minimize/maximize menu items, moving windows around, etc. That might give you an insight on what is happening.

Are you using Beryl or Compiz Fusion? If so, most likely something to do with the window decorator.....
