lost linux
I have Suse 9.1 alongside Windows XP and Windows 98.
I was resizing Windows Partition with Partition Magic 8.0 but now cannot access Linux ,was booting from Grub on floppy. Grub doesnt find it now. Windows XP and Windows 98 still booting from Boot Loader on hard disk. When I go to rescue system on Yast it says "No Linux root Partition found",if I go to install it says"it appears that your machine has linux system installed. To verify this existing partition must be mounted." When I look at Partitions Linux still appears to be there. Can I rescue Suse or is the only alternative to re-insatll? |
are you sure you haven't changed size of linux partition? or maybe you've added a partition and the linux partition's number have been changed?
p.s. sorry for my english ;) |
Thanks, I think I have an extra linux partition of 7.3 mb!
I am not sure that existing Linux partitions have been resized. I have Linux on dev/hda6 and swap on dev/hda5. So it is possible that partitions have been renamed. Is there anything I can do? |
AFAIK you can type some params to lilo or grub while choosing OS but i don't remember it, maybe someone else remembers...next you should update grub's config file and reboot
or you can try to boot from some linux install cd in text mode...then try to mount your linux partition and edit grub's config..next reboot |
Thanks,still no sucsess.
Unable to get anywhere from boot cd in text |
