Lost GRUB

I am running a dual partition system with GRUB. win98 is on one partition, Mandrake 8 is on the other.

I had to re-install win98 recently (which unfortunately didn't fix the problem I was having...). Since then, I no longer have GRUB and so can't boot linux.

How can I get GRUB back? I won't have to completely re-install Linux, will I?...

Windows just overwrote the MBR, but the actual grub program should still be available. Try booting Linux from your boot/rescue floppy and doing "grub -install".
If your original grub config files get overwritten, Mandrake's support site has instructions on configuring grub for dual-boot.

mandrake is horrible about not offering a no lilo or grub option... windows simply rewrote its own mbr (and, of course, acts like a person would NEVER use another OS besides windows on a partition)...take yur mandrake disk and use it as a boot disk, you can use it to boot to yur root partition, just try to find out what it is...

/dev/hda7,6,or even 4... try those out, it should tell you how to do it...
