lost desktop icons in KDE

I was playing around with the KDE configurator tool and I de-seclected the select box "desktop icons" (doing that made the icons vanish), I then selected that option again, but to my surprise the icons never re-appeared.
Is there a file where all my icons are stored, any other way of restoring them??

Right click on the desktop and choose create new then choose which type of shortcut icon you would like to create.

Did you not apply the change maybe?
Maybe you mean the auto generated icons for un/mounted drives. Check the Desktop behaviour, Devices section.
