losing gui kubuntu 7.10

I have tried to install kubuntu 4 times. These are fresh installs on a computer that ran feisty without problem.

The install goes ok I reboot and can log in without problem them later I get the following message

Kinit: name_to dev-T (/dev/disk/by-uuid/4ec5f6f0-0521-4c83-b881-dfe35ca4b770) = sdb2(8,18)

Kinnit: trying to resume from /dev/disk/ by uuid/4ec5f6f0-0521-4c83-b881-dfe35ca4b770

Kinnit: No resume image, doing normal boot...

ubuntu 7.10

I can enter mu login and password and then command line appears.

I have no idea what the above means except that it seems no resume image is found and I am kicked to the command line which is alien to me at this time.

How can I get my gui back or how do I reinstall and not have the same problem?

My computer is fairly standard with asus motherboard Intel quad core 6600 2 gigs ddr2 wd sata 500 gig hd and wd eide 200 gig hd with nvidia 7300 video card.

to load the GUI try running startx

Ignore the resume messages, its looking for an image in the swap device that it would have set up if you had hibernated the comp.

startx should work as mentioned above, assuming your xorg.conf file is OK. when you got it working, reinstall kdm to give you a GUI login.

At command prompt typed startx and result was screen went blank dark nothing. If this means the install is bad how do I reinstall to prevent a fifth bad install?
