looking for modem driver
i am trying to install a driver for a Volcano modem VC-8232V .
when i first installed the card, my FC3 linux machine recognized it to be a hsfi 56 pci modem and asked if i need to configure which i answered positively. but after booting is completed, i can't find the modem in the hardware browser. when i remove it and re-boot, it asks if i want to remove the configuration. any help for instruction or referencem of where and how to find a driver and install it is very appreciated |
I think you may find your driver here.

i feel a little hopeless here for each simple problem has su-problems. i got the documentation for my modem from the store i bought it from
PCIMODEM (Drivers and utilities for PCI modems) |--AMBIENT (Ambient/Intel 56K PCI modem) |--NT40 (NT 4.0 driver, run INSTALLER.EXE) |--WIN2000_XP (Win 2000/XP driver) |--WIN9X (Win 95/98 driver) |--WINME (Win ME driver) |--ESS2838 (ESS ES2838 56K PCI Softmodem) |--NT40 (NT 4.0 driver, run SETUP.EXE) |--WIN2000 (Win 2000 driver) |--WIN9X (Win 95/98 driver) |--ESS (Volcano/ESS 56K PCI modem) >>> |--LINUX (Linux driver, see INSTALL.TXT) |--NT40 (NT 4.0 driver, run SETUP.EXE) . . HSFi (Volcano/Conexant CX11252 SoftK56 V92 PCI modem) |--WIN2000_XP (Win 2000/XP driver) ---- From part of readme file should I CONCLUDE THAT THE DRIVER IS WHAT IS REFERED IN ESS/LINUX although at booting the system detected HSFI modem? I followed the instruction of the install.txt referred in ESS/LINUX and i couldn't make the installation and this is another problem. |
I am sorry, the list should look like this

i installed and ran a software, scanModem, to know more information about my modem like the ID and the chipset. the manufaturer company conexant doesn't provide a linux driver so i had to install it from linuxant. its free version has limited functionality and for extra buck you can get the full version. i did the installation and i will know later if this should do it. as everything else in linux, it is a learning experience that goes through making you feel nothing and frustrated till you get it done.

^x2, I bought their drivers and am more than pleased. My dial up is literally twice as fast than in linux as it is with the driver's the hardware came with in Windows, and it's a lifetime license for that PC.

Well you could buy the linuxant driver but for a dollar more
