Looking for floor plan drawing software that shows dimensions as you draw a line

I need a simple, 2 dimension, flat, floor plan with dimensions and total square footage calculated upon completing the rectangle. I've tested a few that promote their 3d versions with mucho bells and whistles, and even with that I can't seem to generate a line dimension or a total sq foot figure unless I calculate it myself, manually, and insert the numbers into the drawing. Any ideas? I appreciate your assistance.

LibreCAD is a Opensource drafting software. It uses the same format as AutoCAD so I guess you could transfer files between autocad and librecad but I have never used it.
LibreCAD it used to be called QCAD and I used then, I remember it being really good for design and stuff.

Good luck to you.

Google Sketchup.

I run it on Windows, but it is reported to run also under Linux/WINE. I had it running on Ubuntu at one time, but not 100%

ATM, it's the only reason I ever boot into Windows.
