I have Evernote on my android phone but i want a desktop version for linux. I've checked my pclinuxos repos and all I get are two clones for Evernote: nevernote and nixnote.
Has anyone tried using Evernote, the windows version, with wine? Thanks
I tried to use wine to install Evernote for windows, but wine couldn't access the internet to register Evernote during the installation. My internet connection is fine, just can't figure out why wine can't see or use it.
Anyway, I decided to use the native linux app nixnote and hope for the best.
You can use Evernote Web in your browser on Linux. There is no actual Linux app, but you get the same thing in the web app, as long as you have an internet connection. Not exactly the same, but that's what is available.
I used to use Tomboy, and it's ok. Certainly not as versatile as Evernote, but it does notes. You can sync it in various ways, including Dropbox et al in addition to using Tomboy's server. I gave it up. I now use mostly Google Keep, although I do have an Evernote account and use the web interface occasionally. Keep can be used as a Chrome app on Linux, if you install Chrome browser. Some people are terrified of that, though.
I do have an Evernote account and I also use the Evernote web client. But, I don't like keeping my stuff on the cloud. I like to have my stuff locally.
I also use a firefox add-on called Evernote web clipper. Have you heard or tried it? It's real awesome. Below is a link on it's usage.
I've tried it, but I don't use it often enough to keep it enabled. Evernote, by default, keeps all your notes in the cloud. That's how it syncs. If you don't want your notes in the cloud, you need something else.
nixnote sucks! it doesn't sync with my Evernote account. I have no choice but to use the Evernote web client to sync with my devices.

Whether you use the web interface or nixnote or some other client, the same sync occurs and your notes are stored in the cloud. Using the web interface is no different at all, other than the user interface, and that's very close anyway.
