looking for drivers

Hello, My name is Lance, I am about toi try to get a panasonic toughbook cf-28 to run on linux.

I already know of one that I need:
lbtouch_drv.o

The only link that I have found goes to a site in [ I think] Germany, and My German is non-existant at the moment.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thank you in advance.

Lance

Hi Lance,

Welcome to Linux Questions!

Go and download some live DVD isos and burn them t0 DVDs, boot and try them. Checkout Distrowatch.com. Any I've tried have just worked "out of the box", Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc. Once you find one which works and suits you, install it and you're done. You shouldn't have to make something up from bits and pieces, most distros will already include any drivers you require.
Note that Live DVDs run in memory so your loaded OS isn't affected.

There are a ton of instructions within these forums about how to make a bootable live CD/DVD from an iso image so do have a good scout round and have fun!

Play Bonny!

trying to get hardware to run on the software ?
do you not mean trying to get the software to run on the hardware ?

is it one from 1999 / 2001
if so
it is basically a door stop
a Pentium III 600.0 MHz CPU
128 Meg ram

built in 56 k modem, at least it is not a 24 k --- (AOL is no longer around )

and usb1 ports
-- have fun finding usb 1 hardware that is new

have a look at installing "AntiX "

The cf-28 has
pentium III 1GHz cpu
512 mb ram
80 gb hard drive
cd burner / dvd reader.
touch screen
modem [speed unknown]
network interface
vga out
sound card [type unknown]DB9 com port
parallel port
mouse pad w/ 2 buttons

I use this unit for emcomm due to the ruggedness of the design.
I origionally had XP and ran well until the old 30GB HDD decided it wasn't going to spin-up any more, and pulled an 80Gb from a CF-27 That simply gave up the ghost due to a failed power connector on the motherboard.
I would have gone with a reload of XP, but with support ending next month, what was the point. I feel it was time to try a different approach.
The 80 GB HDD tested ok and was readable on my main system with an adapter on a USB port.
But because the old unit had a P1 cpu, the cpu driver wouldn't load.
I will have to wipe the HDD anyway, so whatever system operates the best is the one I'll go with.
Some of the programs that I use have versions written for LINUX, and have heard of others that run under WinE.
That is the approach I am trying to use.

Very 73,
Lance
