Looking for a Linux system that allows selective booting as work station or as a serv
Wanting to experiment with Linux. Would like a free or inexpensive version on CD or DVD. Would like source code to be included.
Please advise. Thank you. |
What's your distinction between a workstation and a server? It just depends what software you install. My recommendation would be to go with Ubuntu if you're starting out, because it's generally user-friendly and doesn't need any advanced knowledge to use :) for server software, you'd want to install apache2
Hope this helps, |
Well, source code is probably going to come on multiple CD's and DVD's. Take Debian, there's something like 8 DVD's. YOu can either download them from the Debian site or buy them from one of the vendors. http://www.debian.org/CD/vendors/

Welcome to LQ
If you decide to use ubuntu, wich is best for beginners, download the 2 versions and burn them to CD ubuntu workstation http://www.ubuntu.com/ ubuntu server http://www.ubuntu.com/business/server/overview Kind regards |
There really is little difference between a workstation and a sever. The basic system is the same. You can take almost any of the top 100 distro's at distrowatch.com and use them. You simply configure each install to be what you desire. One being set up as a workstation and the second of the dual boot set up to be a server. Then boot to your choice.
One can also do both with a single install. |
