I'm four days into my new Yoper 2.1 installation - which is my first successful attempt at installing Linux - and it looks very nice so far. I've just finished getting my wireless network running - and a big thanks for the HOW-TO on the Netgear MA111 from this site - and I must say I had a very confusing time working out how to activate the card and set the IP addresses etc. at startup.
So, the subject of this message. Can anyone recommend a good overview of the startup process and what all the different startup scripts and config files are for? There's an awful lot of stuff under /etc, and there seems to be quite a bit of redundancy involved. I'd like to get a handle on it if I can, so that next time I'm installing something I don't get the feeling that I'm randomly poking stuff and hoping it works.
Thanks in advance.
Mark
