logon
I've just installed mandrake 6.1 from an old CD that I had lying around, but it won't let me login as either root or the user I created during installation. Whenever I enter the login name I just get another request for the login name, and never get asked for the password. I searched around for a solution, and I've managed to get some kind of access by using 'linux single' from LILO, but being a newbie I wasn't sure what to do from there.
Has anybody got any ideas why I can't logon. |
when your in with linux single with no password prompt, try changing the root password with this command:
Code:
passwd root or you can also try to create new accounts and users. check your /etc/passwd file for users accounts for the machine. |
Yeah, I've tried that. The user I created during installation is there and I've created a new user, and re-entered the root password from single user mode. I don't think the problem is with the passwords, as no user names are being recognised. I've tried re-installing incase something had gone wrong there, but always get the same outcome.
