logitech cam question

Hi everyone

I just Installed Slackware 10.0 and I need to enable my Logitech Webcam, I did somethings that didn’t work, let me show you:

First I modified the /etc/rc.d/rc.Modules

Uncomment the
##USB devices support lines
#IBM “C-IT” USB video camera
/sbin/modprobe ibmcam framerate=1
#USB OV511 camera support
/sbin/modprobe OV511
#USB Kodak Dc – 2xx camera support
/sbin/modprobe dc 2xx
#usb Mass Storage support
/sbin/modprobe USB – Storage

Also the line for
###USB event drivers
#generic event reporting device
/sbin/modprobe evdev.

I checked in the info center if the usb device was available
And it showed this:
USB OHCI root HUB (1)
USB OHCI root HUB (2)
|
|__camera
Class 255 (vendor specific class)
Subclass 0
Protocol 0
USB version 1.16
Vendor ID 0x46d (Logitech, Inc)
Product ID 0x870 (Quickcam Express)
Revision 1.0
Speed 12mbit/s
Channel 0
Max packet size 0

then tried xcam and didn’t work

Finally I add a Camera Device to the desktop and when tried there was an error:
“error not mount device”
“mount: can’t find dev/usb in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab”

My question is.
If the info center recognize de usb device why xcam doesn't work?
What is the steps to make it work properly?

Thanks a lot for your help

Two things ...

a) A webcam is not a mountable device.

b) The driver depends heavily on make and
model of the camera. If you're using a 2.4
kernel you can give the pwc a shot, many
of the more recent Logi's are based on the
Philips technology.

Cheers,
Tink
